The developed countries like U.S.A. and United Kingdom comprises limited population with ample amount of resources in hand. They are rich enough to employ all potential individuals according to their skills leading to growth and development prospects of the nation as a whole whereas, underdeveloped nations like Gambia, Liberia and developing nations like India and China are the worst hit by the problem of population explosion.

The number of job opportunities created in the country is not even equal to half of the population. India is anticipated to be the world’s most populous country by 2022, exceeding China. Today India accounts for 15% of the world population consisting of 1.25 billion people approximately, whereas the land area comprises only 2.4% and according to 1981 census, the population in India was 685 million including about 354 million males and 331 million females.

Population explosion is majorly due to many factors like increased birth rate, decreased infant mortality rate, improved life expectancy and ignorance about family planning. It has a widespread impact on the economic and social stability of the economy leading to problems like overpopulation, increase in the level of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, increasing health problems, increasing environmental problems like pollution and global warming due to extra pressure on the earth than it can handle, etc.

Population Connection formerly known as Zero Population Growth or ZPG is a non-profit organization in the United States which aims at raising awareness about the population challenges and exponents for enhanced global access to family planning and reproductive health care.

Many organisations all around the globe are working in order to control the menace caused by the problem. The government of India both at central and state levels have implemented laws and policies in order to curb the problem. The Family Planning is an official programmer launched in 1952 that aims at acknowledging people about the importance of family planning.

The parents were convinced to go in for sterilization after the birth of two children as contraceptive pills were not always found to be safe and full-proof. The state governments too came forward to help the central government in its bid to attain success in population control.

Cheap contraceptives were distributed in even the remotest villages, sex education was popularized, vasectomy operations were conducted and abortion was legalized. Also, the government is trying to educate the people by initiating RTE (Right To Education) Act that guarantees free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India under Article 21A of the Indian Constitution.

Thus, in order to control the situation we must also seek to control the birth rate and do family planning. This in turn will not only better our lives but will also better the nation as a whole. The activities of the nation in independent India are directed towards the task of providing adequate means of livelihood to an increasing number of people through an incorporated development of all sectors ranging from agriculture to trade to commerce and industries. The schemes adopted and implemented for this purpose cannot materialize unless the population problem is tackled satisfactorily.
