What is Dimmer
Also known as a light regulator or dimmer, a dimmer is a small electrical device that allows you to dim or enhance the lighting in an environment.
It is generally shaped like a button or wheel and connects to the electrical system next to the power switch. By turning it, this system allows you to turn on and regulate the intensity of light emitted by a lamp or a group of them.
One of the great advantages of the dimmer and collaborating with the decoration is that it saves energy at home. Reducing the intensity when you do not need all the light power of a lamp reduces consumption and lowers the electricity company bill. On the other hand, this also allows the life of the LED spotlight bulbs to be extended a little more.
Types of Dimmer
According to how the dimmers work, we can divide them into two large groups: manual and automatic.
Manuals Dimmer
Rotating: with this type of dimmer, the light turns on when the wheel is turned and generates an initial intensity of approximately 10% of the total light output. The intensity control is also carried out by spinning it.
Pressure rotaries: in this case, the wheel only serves to regulate the intensity of the light. At the same time, the ignition is carried out by pressing a key or light key located next to the rotary device. Unlike the full swivels, these models allow you to turn off the light without turning the knob, so you can keep the last lighting settings you made.
Tactile: in these models, both the ignition and the intensity regulation are carried out by tapping a touch panel placed in replacement of the light keys. These dimmers usually have different preset power settings. For example, low, medium and high level, and if one touches it, it goes from one level to another and then turns off.
Automatic Dimmer
Remote: it is regulated through remote control with radio frequency, which allows it to be carried out from different parts of the house and even from outside.
Wi-Fi: this is the most modern type of dimmer and is used in home automation or “smart home” systems. The driving options are very wide. It can even be done from a smartphone or tablet using your home Wi-Fi network. These systems generally also include a touch remote control.
Dimmer for LED
When they came on the market, LED, lamps were associated with cool and functional lighting. It was about saving energy, and nobody was thinking about decoration. But that has changed substantially. Dimmers and LED lamps have become a perfect combination of efficiency, comfort and design in recent years.
In the first place, because LEDs are very sensitive to current intensity changes, brightness can be modulated easily and without altering the normal electrical circuit.
