What is an Ice Sheet Definition

Sometimes, a glacier is not confined to a valley, but spreads over a wide flat area. These glaciers are known as ice-sheets. One ice sheet is floating on the Arctic Ocean, covering the North Pole, another ice sheet covers the continent of Antarctica, while yet another ice sheet is in Greenland. Unlike valley glaciers, they grow outwards rather than downhill and the snow builds up in their centers.
