What Are Trade Winds? – Short Answer

The sun shines directly overhead in the tropical area. The atmosphere there heats up and rises. Cooler air rushes in from north and south to take its place. This produces winds that blow towards the equator and are called trade winds. If the winds blow from the sea then the winds bring rain, if they blow from inland then they are dry winds. Trade winds are diverted to the west by the turning of the earth.
